Coach Profiles
Our coaches all say that the motivation to volunteer for the club is ‘seeing the progression and development of the children into confident and happy swimmers’ – a true skill for life!

I started swimming lessons at RSC aged 5 and believe it or not I can remember when another of our team Joined as a young teacher . I then progressed through the Club and was Swim Captain in the 1980s and I went on to be Head coach, I left the club (after 15 years) when I went down south to work but still stayed active in swimming. I then returned to the Club 12 years ago as a parent of a 5 year old wanting swimming lessons and found myself volunteering and back on poolside teaching. RSC has been a massive part of my life and the greatest satisfaction I get is seeing any child accomplish the smallest thing . Swimming is a life skill not just a hobbie. Becky

Hi I have been volunteering at Ryedale Swimming club since 2013 after my daughter started swimming there. I used to swim for my local club back in the Lake District and have always enjoyed swimming both competitively and for pleasure. I am lucky enough to teach not only non – swimmers make their first splash across the pool, but also coach pre competition lanes and our competition squad. I am also involved with team selections for galas for the Ridings League, Borders and friendly galas. In the time I have been at the club I have been lucky enough to watch swimmers progress from taking their first strokes to competing for the club, including my own daughter who is now the current girls team captain and one our newest coaches. I started swimming lessons at RSC aged 5 (and believe it or not some of my teachers are still teaching and coaching today at Ryedale). I then progressed through the Club and was Swim Captain in the 1990s! I then returned to the Club 10 years ago to coach the competition section. However, my real passion for swimming is now in open water competition. This started 8 years ago to raise money for charity and I now have the bug. Hopefully health permitting I will try to do Windermere end to end in 2017. Back at RSC I started the Adult Masters section in January 2016 and this is going from strength to strength. But there is nothing quite like a Friday night Competition coaching session with a bunch of swimmers who have been caged all week at school! After swimming and coaching it doesn’t leave much time for my other hobbies of running, hockey, photography and looking after my hound. If only I could find a sport to combine all things outdoors!
